July is UV Safety Month

Summer is a fun time to be active outside, soak up some rays, and enjoy the good weather! UV Safety Month is a great reminder to practice sun safety and check in on the health of your skin while you’re out being active and having fun! When planning your kayaking or paddle boarding trip, be sure to pack water resistant, broad spectrum sunscreen that’s at least 30 SPF or higher. If you are headed out to do a few laps or lounge at the pool, don’t forget to bring your wide brimmed hat and sunglasses to protect your eyes, nose, and shoulders from too much sun. As you head out for a day of hiking, make plans to take a shady trail or hang out in a shaded area during peak sun hours between 10am – 4pm. Finally, take a minute to do a skin check this summer especially if you get burned once or twice. If you find something unusual, get in touch with a dermatologist, don’t put it off. If you are enrolled in one of Genesco’s medical plans you can use the BlueCross mobile app to find an in-network dermatologist near you! If you are looking for some fun in the sun activities that will help you get moving and give you the opportunity to practice sun safety, check out AlwaysOn Wellness app from BlueCross for inspiration! https://www.bcbst.com/use-insurance/mobile-apps
