National Eye Exam Month

Part of working towards good physical health for you and your family is making sure that the whole person – from head to toe – is staying healthy and getting “looked” in on every now and then. This includes eye health!
August is National Eye Exam Month and when students across the country begin returning to the classroom. At first glance, eye exams and back-to-school preparations might seem unrelated, but they are both important to a student’s academic success. Annual eye exams can actually help improve academic performance by detecting vision problems like nearsightedness, farsightedness, or astigmatism early – conditions that can hinder a student’s learning and development.
Not only can an annual eye exam help you or your student excel in the classroom, but it can also improve your overall physical health. These exams often lead to early detection of a wide variety of underlying health conditions, such as high blood pressure, diabetes, high cholesterol, and thyroid problems. Spotting these conditions early can be very important for receiving timely and effective treatments.
This back-to-school season, start the school year off healthy and strong by taking advantage of your vision insurance benefits, and set your student up for success in the classroom by getting their eyes checked out with an annual exam.
